Other sources
Live steam is commonly used in the larger scales, but the methods used there do not always scale successfully to O gauge. The Gauge 1 Model Railway Association has published several books on simple starter projects that may be a source of inspiration, and may, with some ingenuity, be scaled down to O gauge:
- The Project Book - a simple, single cylinder 0-6-0 tender locomotive based on the Midland 4F class, with meths firing.
- The Dee Book - twin inside cylinders, meths or butane gas fired, based on the SECR D class 4-4-0.
- The ARM1G Book - twin inside cylinders, butane gas fired, 0-4-4T.
These books are available for sale to G1MRA members and non-members.
