Writing for GOGWiki

What makes a good article?

A good article is:

1. Suitable. It is a topic that is relevant to modelling in O gauge.

2. Unique. It contains material that is not found elsewhere in the Wiki. Some overlap is acceptable, but the article should not simply present a different opinion.

3. Well written. The writing is clear and focused on the topic.

4. Comprehensive. It neglects no major facts or details and places the subject in context.

5. Well-researched. It is a thorough and representative survey of the topic; claims are backed up with evidence either included or referenced to its source.

6. Neutral. It presents views fairly and without bias.

7. Timely. The content is relevant to current practices.

Articles under development

An article may be published in the wiki while under development. If so, the article must contain a statement to the effect that the article is under active development. It is expected that authors will abide by this. Articles for which no development occurs for a long period of time may be removed or their content re-used elsewhere if appropriate.

Summary articles

An article may summarise the information available on a topic if it is spread over a number of Wiki pages. The article should include links to all relevant pages.

Attributes

All articles should have the following attributes:

1. Style. It follows the GOGWiki style guidelines.

2. Media. It has images and other media, where appropriate, with explanatory captions and acceptable copyright status.

3. Length. It stays focused on the main topic without going into unnecessary detail.

4. Ownership. The text, images and any other media are not subject to ownership limits, but may be published freely, either because they are already in the public domain or because the author has secured the permission of the owner to reproduce. Securing permission is the responsibility of the author, not the Gauge O Guild.
