Peartree Engineering 3ft 1in three hole disc wagon wheels

Purchased and reviewed by Martin Bloxom

I bought a set of these wheels at Guildex to use on my garden line. The wheels are 28mm back to back (sometimes incorrectly called coarse scale). They are insulated for 2-rail use, have pin point axles and come with brass bearings. The wheels and axle, chemically blackened and made of steel, are quite substantial – as set weighs some two ounces. Plastic centred wheels weigh about half of this and can be more expensive. The weight is where you need it with the Peartree wheels especially on light vehicles, although further weighting may still be needed for garden railway running. These Peartree wheels run well and true; ‘wagons will roll well!’ Recommended. I assume that finescale and Scale 7 wheels from the same source will be as good. More details will be found in the firm’s advertising in the Gazette.
