My first foray into 3D printed O gauge models was triggered by seeing that a body of a standard gauge Motor Rail Simplex was available. After a bit of searching and a few emails a bespoke chassis was sourced also.

I’ve only washed the body and wafted some primer over it so far. I intend to replace the springs as these are a bit generic, and footsteps need adding as these seemed to vary on every loco. Plenty more controls to add and hopefully a Modelu Driver in due course. An extra bit of weight to finish tucked here and there and it should pull 2 or 3 wagons. I think it will look nice in a deep blue colour with a large red builders plate!

Now the schools are back in business and inspired by all those light railway layouts at Guildex this year I’ve found some time for a bit of modelling. Progress on upgrading some details of the print and adding others. Brake gear still to come. The last photo shows how small it is next to the Ixion Manning Wardle I picked up at Guildex.

Looks like you had the same problem I had with a different Simplex from the same source - fragile roof supports! Though I'm not complaining, I think I was handling it quite roughly in my motorisation attempts. Mine is a 40hp 60cm trench railway loco which I'm 'standard-gauging' as a few were after the war by fitting longer axles and a buffer-beam up at the top of the bonnet. Quite a distinctive little loco….

That range includes lots of other stuff and of course the 3D print technique allows more or less any scale. I'm likely to be after the “Devil's Dyke” Sentinel railcar he does.

Well done!
I've been contemplating building one of these for a while now, maybe using a motor bogie. However I have no experience of 3D printed items.
I quite liked the idea of laying a simple dual-gauge siding in my quarry scene. BUT having seen the up-coming Minerva Manning Wardle RTR I am probably going for that option, as it has 'the look' and is a more flexible aquisition.

That sounds a lovely little loco Steve. Yes, I’ve had this most of the summer and broke one of the supports last week. I had always thought they’d need replacing and since it has broken it has acted as a catalyst for me to crack on and start hacking it about!
