Handy Figure Painting Tool
Felix Verser pictures by the author
I USED TO PAINT my figures while they were glued to a wooden paint stick stirrer. While that worked okay, I would struggle with painting some of the finer details that are so beautifully cast in figures available in our scale. I found myself thinking, if only I could approach that area from a different angle, it would be so much easier. By pure luck I stumbled upon some micro shelving supports being tossed in the rubbish. The light bulb flickered.
As seen in the photos, this holder could easily be made with some spare wood and balsa dowels. Mine measures 7in long and has four pegs for figures, which is all I paint at one time. The pegs are 3in tall. I added a cross piece forming an X, which makes a great handle while painting. This is especially useful when holding upside down. I attach the figures with a drop of superglue which has proven sufficient. This holder also makes it easy to spray both the primer and clear coats.
