I had some 20-plus year old waterslide transfers which simply broke up when I tried to use them. So I had a think.

They came off the backing OK; the problem was the paint or film breaking up. Why not strengthen the face of the transfer?

I applied two coats of varnish, the second mainly to ensure I had not missed any parts with the first coat. And, would you Adam and Eve it? The transfers applied perfectly. Voilà! Voiture ancienne du réseau Paris-Orléans! (Transfers and kits from John Boyle, sadly deceased this year)
