The Agenoria ‘Jinty’ complete

By Anthony Fellows

Following on from my article, Powering the Agenoria Jinty, that appeared in the May 2015 Gazette, I thought there might be interest in a brief second article showing the completed kit with its ‘underslung’ drive.

The first view (above) shows the rear axle Mashima 16/28 motor and 26:1 gear set drive. In practice, the drive is quite noisy, but there is sufficient ‘go’ to push my heavy, all brass (but unfinished) 45XX tank loco at speed without getting out of breath.

For electrical pick-up, as shown in the second view (above), I opted for stiff brass wire from leading and centre axles, with the motor connections soldered to a square of copperclad board Roket glued to the sandbox castings. This can also be seen between centre and rear axles. The phosphor-bronze strips complete the circuit from trailing axle to motor, without the need for another pair of wires. As the drive assembly takes up most of the inside width of the chassis, routing wires from the rear pick-ups would be awkward if not impossible.

The view below shows off how nicely the kit goes together. Painted but awaiting decals, which will eventually be LMS post grouping. In the background my original diagram for the motor mounting bracket angle setting can just be seen.
