Submitting videos to the YouTube channel

There are two 'realistic' methods for transferring videos to me for adding to the Gauge O Guild YouTube channel. They are Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive. Both are similar in operation, but if they aren't already present on your computer you will have to download the relevant programme - certainly, OneDrive is included in Windows 10 (but may need activation, if you haven't used it yet, as will Google Drive), but if your OS is older, you will have to download whichever programme.

To check if you already have either, OneDrive is 'cloud' symbol; this will be present either in the 'system tray' on the bottom right of the black bar at the bottom of the screen (where the time/date, battery level on a laptop, WiFi strength, etc. is…) or if you open 'file explorer' there will be a heading 'OneDrive' showing, maybe, a couple of folders when expanded.

Google Drive

Google Drive is a programme attached to Google internet browser, if you use that as a search engine. If you already have it installed, the way to check is to open the Google browser, and at the top left of the screen there is a button marked 'Apps'. If you select this, the programme symbol looks like an equilateral triangle with flat corners (green - left, yellow - right, blue - bottom). This method is probably the easiest to use. It opens as a web page, and on the left hand side there is a bit of a menu. Underneath the symbol and 'Drive', there is on oval button containing a multicoloured '+' & 'New'. If you press this button, you get a number of options one of which is 'file upload'. Selecting this opens a dialogue with 'file explorer', so select the file you wish to upload, and click on 'open'. This will upload the file to Google Drive (the total limit is 15Gb).

Once the file has loaded, and appeared under 'my drive', you need to 'right-click' the file; the fourth option down is 'get a shareable link', select this and you will get another dialogue box. This contains a URL link, and various other options. Below the URL is the security options; as you are only going to send it to me, change the 'restricted' to 'anyone with the link' by right-clicking the box. The next thing to do is to press the 'copy link' button next to the URL box, then press 'done' at the bottom. The link can then be pasted and sent to me. If everything has been executed correctly, I will be able to download what you have added.

One Drive

Using OneDrive is similar, but it is done from file explorer. As I mentioned above, if you have activated OneDrive there will be an option linked to this in file explorer. When you click on the entry you will probably get a 'documents' & a 'pictures' folder.

It is up to your preference, but I use the 'pictures folder' for video; copy & paste the file you wish to send into the chosen folder. Once that is done, if you right-click the folder, you will get an option to share (third option down on mine). Select this, and you get a dialogue box similar to Google Drive, and ensure anyone with the link can view is selected. Then press the 'copy link' button at the bottom. The link can then be pasted and sent to me. If everything has been executed correctly, I will be able to download what you have added.

Of course, you can use any other file transfer method that you are familiar with to send video to me for uploading.
