I was very interested to read Mark Horley's review of the Judith Edge kit for the NER EF1 Bo-Bo electric loco in the May 2020 issue of the Gazette.

I have recently taken delivery of a model of one of these locos, built by Mike Edge from the same kit and painted by Dave Studley. In my case, I asked for the loco to be finished in 'ex-works’ condition in NER lined black. It took a good deal of research to confirm the correct livery details and the NER Association was most helpful in this regard. When their Chairman, Neil Mackay, subsequently saw a photo of the finished model, he said he could almost smell the ozone from the traction motors and thought that Sir Vincent Raven would be suitably impressed!

There’s a photograph of the completed model, taken by Dave Studley, together with one taken by me showing the pantographs in the raised position.

I chose No.11 as the loco to be modelled as that was the one that was converted into the solitary EB1 prototype banking loco for the Woodhead route, but which subsequently became the depot shunter at Ilford Car Sheds on the former GE main line out of Liverpool Street. I lived nearby and often saw the loco as we passed in the train and also remember it forlornly dumped in Goodmayes Down Yard awaiting scrapping following the conversion of the route from DC to AC traction.
