I took a punt at a new product that M & M are advertising.
This consists of a pair of blackened lost wax castings which
are simply designed to replace screw link couplings.
You know how difficult it is to couple up between coaches
with that corridor connector and the vacuum pipes in the way.
Well, fit these and all your troubles are gone and being black,
they are very unobtrusive. Fitting is the same principle as the
hook and screw link with the spring and split pin concept. They
just clunk up to each other magnetically and stay there. The
magnets are rare earth types. I recently ran an eight car rake at
an exhibition for two days without any disconnection at all.
They simply disconnect by pulling apart with a little force and
with no risk of damage. The only slight disadvantage is that
like all magnets they have a pole attraction. So all that you
have to do is turn the vehicle around if they don’t attract each
other, but leave at least one pair of coaches without the
magnets at one end for cosmetic appearance and to maintain
ability to couple up to the locomotive. What’s it called?
MAGCLIC. They’re wonderful. Highly recommended.
Malcolm at On the Wagon thanks Peter for his vibrant review that reflects their enthusiasm for this new product. He also apologises for the current lack of a postal address which is due to slow progress with access to the new premises
