Edge Hill Light Railway - SANKEY 0-4-0ST Locomotive.

The real locomotive.
SANKEY was a Manning Wardle ‘F’ class 0-4-0 saddle tank, built in 1888, works number 1088, and first used building of the Manchester Ship Canal. Then after a vague history it went to The EHLR in 1922.

There is one known photo as delivered and a few as abandoned in the late 1930s.

The model locomotive.
The basic model is a Slaters kit. Details are as assessed from the few known photos and include dumb buffers for working the internal wagons (which also came from the ship canal), round smoke box door, also injectors and brake blocks & linkage which are not like standard MW.

Construction is mainly soldered onto sub-assemblies then screwed together rather like the real thing.

Painting is automotive etch primer then brushed with ‘Railmatch’ LMS Crimson, satin & matt black and red.
